AFFILIATION

Permanent Affiliation of the College under North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) was obtained on 2nd January, 1987.

Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai is also included in the UGC under section 2(f) and 12(B)

The University Grants Commission (UGC) provides financial assistance to eligible colleges which are included under Section 2(f) and declared fit to receive central assistance (UGC grant) under Section 12 (B) of UGC Act, 1956 as per approved pattern of assistance under various schemes. The number of colleges included under Section 2(f)/12(B) of UGC Act 1956 as on 31.3.2006 is 6014. Out of these, 5449 colleges have been declared eligible to receive central assistance, including UGC grants under Section 12(B) of UGC Act 1956. Remaining 565 colleges are recognized under Section 2(1) of UGC Act 1956 but not yet declared fit for receiving central assistance as they do not fulfill the conditions laid down for such status.

* The UGC had notified Regulations for recognition of colleges under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. The colleges are brought under the purview of UGC in terms of these Regulations as and when the proposals are received from the colleges for inclusion under Section 2(f) and they are found fit for inclusion as per the provisions contained in the Regulations.

** Apart from inclusion of colleges under Section 2(f), the UGC includes the Colleges under Section 12(B) of its Act in terms of Rules framed under the Act. This makes the colleges eligible for central assistance from the Government of India or any organization receiving funds from the Central Government.

The dreams of the public leaders as well as the people of Jaintia Hills, materialized on 15th Sept 1967, when the Kiang Nangbah Government College, the erstwhile Jowai Government College came into existences. Since its inception, the Vision is “to promote quality and affordable higher learning for the youth”. Its Mission is, “to strive for academic excellence, mould and educate the students to be worthy citizens, ” and the Motto is, “Awake, Arise and Reach the Goal”.

With the Vision and Mission of the founders, Kiang Nangbah Government College has grown gradually. The application for affiliation to Guwahati University was obtained in a phase-wise manner. Temporary affiliation up to Part-II standard from the session 1970-71 was approved vide Memo No. G/AFF/90/70/2474-77 dated – 21-10-1972.

Temporary affiliation in Mathematics and Philosophy up to part Part-I standard for the session 1972-73 was approved Vide No. G/Aft/90/72/15907 date 1-11-1972. The inclusion of the College was under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, and was obtained on 15/7/1971 vide No.CU/UGC/v/12/71, by which the College is temporarily affiliated up to Degree Part-I1 standard for the session 1970-71.

By 1972, Meghalaya became a State of its own and North Eastern Hill University, Act 1973 (No.24 of 1973) had come into force on the 19th July, 1973. Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai the erstwhile Jowai Government College falls under its jurisdiction. Permanent affiliation of the College under NEHU was obtained on 2nd January, 1987.

Fifty-One plus years (15/09/1967 – 15/09/2019) of service to the society Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai has nurtured and matured through its ups and downs. Today, it stands unique. It caters Higher learning to all especially the under privileged ones.
